McLaren Vale sustainable food tour

This Food tour will bring us to visit four iconic food locations in McLaren Vale, South Australia.

  • Paxton Biodynamic Winery
  • Willunga Farmers Market (first farmers market in South Australia)
  • Willunga High road, with its small boutique shops and Shirty Lizzard brewery
  • Edible Veggie Garden at Penny’s hills winery

This is a self-driven tour for promoting independent and responsible tourism in South Australia.

Some of these experiences are “not available” to the public, some others are simply local attractions which we will have the opportunity to touch and visit during our stay in McLaren Vale.

All these stops are included in the price of the ticket.

Pls. Check out timing and make sure to have available transportation for the entire length of the tour.

Paxton Biodynamic Wine

09:30 Paxton Biodynamic Tour: (PAID EXPERIENCE INCLUDED) In 2011 Paxton became a fully certified organic and biodynamic wine producer. The Guided Tour will introduce visitors to the farming techniques and principles of Biodynamic farming including compost preparations, use of herbs, introduction to the significance of the 4 elements, EARTH, AIR (wind), FIRE (sun) and WATER in the Biodynamic philosophy.

Willunga Farmers Market

11:00 Visit at the Willunga Farmers Market: Visit the market at Willunga management. Browsing and purchasing some local produce to restock the week pantry with natural and organic goodies. Meet the locals and learn their story, taste some products, and feel the vibe of the Willunga Farmers Market.

12:30 Tour of Willunga High Street and Lunch.

Willunga high road is full of small boutique shops full of interesting locally made ornaments and decorations. Let’s stroll up from the market to the Shifty Lizard Brewery where we will have a chance to taste some of the locally made beers and chill down a bit. Lunch and drinks have to be purchased individually.

Rachel Edible Garden Experience

02:00 Edible Garden Tour – Penny’s Hills winery. (PAID EXPERIENCE INCLUDED) Join Rachel McMillan, regional food specialist, in her farm garden for a

sensory experience where she will share the knowledge and experience of edible flowers, weeds, and native local produces.

What the Experience Includes:

  • Visit the farm gardens.
  • Description of seasonal products.
  • Tasting of the natives, flowers, and weeds
  • Introduction of use, growing, harvest, and cooking of the farm gardens veggies.

What is required:

  • in order to access wine tastings, experiences is required to be at least 18 years old.
  • Keep in mind we will be visiting a vineyard and proper clothing accordingly to the weather expected and comfortable shoes are required.
  • Sunscreen protection, hat, and a water bottle are also required as predominantly experience will be held outside.
