About the winery:

As a Horticulturist, my wife Lisa and I had been looking for the ‘right’ property to buy in Mclaren Vale for a number of years.

In early 2008 we couldn’t believe our luck when we were able to find a mixed farm with crops such as apples, pears, stonefruit, and cherries. Incredibly the farm also grew Shiraz and Cabernet grapes, most of which are 50 years old.

McCarthy’s Orchard is situated on the foothills of McLaren Vale. It has a very unique micro-climate with refreshing gully winds that run along the hills in the summer and the maritime influence of the sea that protects us from damaging frosts in the spring. The farm has mixed crops such as apples, pears, stonefruits, and cherries and is free to self-navigate during the weekends.

About the Wine:

The Dawn Rose
The Dawn Rose The old Grenache grapes used in creating this drop were perfectly suited to the typical early Rosé pick; captures before sweetness became dominant. This light and refreshing wine offers a nose of rose petal, honeydew, and subtle dry straw, perfect to savour with chèvre cheese and dried fig. Keep chilled.
Lolly Legs Cabernet Sauvignon
Lolly Legs Cabernet Sauvignon At over 50 years old, these Cabernet Sauvignon vines are now some of the oldest left in McLaren Vale, producing some of the best low yielding fruit found in the region. Our rare patch of Cabernet Sauvignon is nurtured by Mark McCarthy using organic fertilizers and rock minerals, without pesticides, amongst our apple and pear trees.
Monkey Bum Shiraz
Monkey Bum Shiraz.  Planted in 1996, these well established vines are able to be dry grown in most years, producing an intensity of flavours not often found. The unique northern slope of this vineyard allows us to combine the savoury characters, produced from the heavier clay areas at the bottom, with the fruity Satsuma plum and cherry aromas in deeper sandstone the top of the hill.
